And although this year’s camp is over (it ran June 10-14), Heffernan is planning to give back today with the Colorado Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp Benefit Concert, a matinee show featuring Wheelchair Sports Camp (the band), Ian Cooke and the 303 Children’s Choir, puppet band Ramekin Liquid Love, Dino Squad and Rubedo. Illegal Pete’s and WaterCourse will provide some food.
“[The camp] is just an opportunity to be around other kids like themselves, and not being limited in their activities,” Heffernan says.
Money raised will benefit next year’s version of the camp, which will be the Colorado Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp’s 31st season. Today’s show runs from 1 to 5 p.m. at Casselman’s, 2620 Walnut Street; it’s free for campers, $15 for kids and $25 for adults. For more information, visit wheelchairsportscamp.co.
