“I think this medium works super-well for comedians; they have a completely rapt audience, one that is primed to laugh,” says event organizer Erin Rollman. “So by comparison to some venues, it’s a comedian’s dream job. It forces them to come up with new material. We love having them — they make it easy on us because they get it so quickly. They aren’t easily fazed, and are always so eager to play to a different crowd than the standup norm.”
Tonight’s topic will be Bollywood vs. Balsa Wood, with comedians Andrew Orvedahl and Christie Buchele, and Buntport Theater’s Evan Weissman and Hannah Duggan.
“Part of what is fun is that we never really know what people will bring to the table, so I can’t honestly say if everyone will work in the format,” Rollman says. “Part of the thrill is how different every debate can be.”
The Great Debate begins at 8 p.m. at Buntport, 717 Lipan Street; tickets are $5. For more information, visit buntport.com.
