The members of Buntport Theater Company do not shy away from challenges. That should have been obvious with the Buntport Versus series, when the troupe attempted to beat another group or individual at an activity that they had spent years mastering — from burlesque to comedy to magic tricks.
That’s the concept behind this weekend’s run of a very special Buntport Versus, during which the theater geeks will take on 7Dancers, a division of the Cherry Creek Dance Performing Company. “We give out the caveat that we’re not making fun of the other group,” notes Buntport’s Brian Colonna. “We’re really trying to do what they do, as well as they do it.
“Now, in order to do that, we cheat,” he adds. “We cut corners and do things to make us look better. And it turns out, as you get older, it’s more traumatic just to go to tap class.” (Colonna’s working on a tap routine with a twist for the big show.)
Buntport Versus: 7Dancers runs tonight and tomorrow night at 8 p.m. at the theater, 717 Lipan Street. Snacks and drinks are included in the $25 ticket price; this show is a fundraiser for the theater, so your patronage will help keep Buntport weird for seasons to come.
