The International Tour of Buddha Relics is also known as the Loving Kindness Tour, and everything about it supports that designation. “It’s a worldwide, free public exhibit of ancient and sacred relics of the historical Buddha and 44 other Buddhist masters from places like India, Tibet, Korea and China,” explains tour spokesman Michael Fouts.
Although the relics are Buddhist, Fouts stresses that the tour is not a Buddhist event. “It’s not about converting anybody to Buddhism,” he adds. “We don’t teach Buddhism; we just want people of all walks and faiths to experience these relics. In two words, it’s about spreading ‘loving kindness’ to as many people as we can.”

The relics will be on display at the Zen Center of Denver, 3101 West 31st Avenue, this evening from 6 to 8 p.m., tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. People often linger after completing the free tour, Fouts says, and they’re welcome to stay as long as they like; there are areas where they can sit and meditate or contemplate the exhibit. Personal blessings will also be offered free to anyone who’d like one (using relics of the Buddha himself), and there are pet-blessing hours tomorrow and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, go to lovingkindnessdenver2013.com or call 303-449-0167.
