"We were inspired by the Biennial of the Americas and started thinking about what we might do to mesh with their goals,” says DBG associate exhibitions director Kim Manajek. “So we decided to look in in our own back yard and feature what Colorado had to offer.... We wanted folks who are able to create works for the outdoors that will last a long time. And we decided to steer clear of representational art, so eventually, while looking for people working in nonobjective realms, certain artists rose to the top."
