Share the Wealth

“Some women spend money on shoes,” notes Denver event maestra Dana Cain. “I’ve been wearing the same Nikes for five years, and I’ve diverted all that shoe money into art. My house looks fabulous, and I’m comfortable!” Cain is just one of several art patrons whose acquisitions will be showcased in the Arvada Center’s Collect: The Art of Colorado Corporations, Institutions and Individuals, and she’s a helluva poster girl for the cause.

“My one big mission in life is to educate people about how fun it is to buy and collect art and how easy it is,” she explains. “I just want to let people know that if you collect art, your home will be freaking over-the-top amazing, and you don’t have to spend a lot of money. There’s stuff in my part of the exhibit that I only paid 75 bucks for, and some of them are my favorite pieces.” And she’ll be in lofty company in this all-inclusive exhibition, which also features works from local museum and corporation collections.
