Too few people think about this, says co-curator Christina Battle, who notes that the United States government deploys sound as a tool in war. “I think, so often, video works are image-based, and often, artists delegate sound and music to the background. All these works we are showing bring sound to the foreground; they’re aesthetically and visually about sound,” she says. While the concept of the program is rather menacing, she points out that the short films themselves are often humorous and will be accompanied by noise karaoke and a performance by de la Garza’s collaborative sound project, R/A.
