Hosted by seventeenth-century sisters and arbiters of taste Constanze and Sidonie de Ridicule, who take the audience by the hand for a literal stroll through the modern art world, drinks in hand, Preciosity invites people into the action. “We at Horse & Cart joke that we program first, ask questions later,” Emmitt says, explaining that the writing process involved weekly meetings with the actors — Timmi Lasley, Sam Provenzano and Maggy Stacy — who contributed to their characterizations before ever hitting the stage. “We’d write jokes, tell lots of inappropriate stories, watch YouTube videos — and ultimately, we created a safe zone, where any of us could share the most outlandish idea and know we wouldn’t be judged. That’s where the best work happens!”
Expect the unexpected when Preciosity — which includes a real art exhibit by local artists — opens at 8 p.m. tonight at the Savoy, 2700 Arapahoe Street; the show runs Fridays and Saturdays through April 19. For tickets, $15, go to horseandcart.co.
