Tonight's mixer, "A Love Affair with Denver," brings eight classic examples of the supreme Denver-lover — from the old guard of Dana Crawford and Wellington Webb to youthful community-builders like Samuel Schimek of I Heart Denver — to the table for a talk and quick-moving speed-meeting format to share what it is that inspires them about the Mile High City.
"It's a platform for the millennial generation to learn what it means to build a city," says DDP spokeswoman Jenny Starkey. "We want the next generation of leaders to have educational experiences with city-building so that when they become the next executive class of movers in downtown Denver, they know how to do it. From Wellington Webb and his contributions to the city as mayor to people working on smaller initiatives through a day job, like Emily Snyder of Public Works, whose focus is on bike infrastructure in Denver, this theme of I Love Denver and the choice of speakers is meant to share the idea that 'if they can do it, I can do it, too.'"
CityMixer begins at 5 p.m. at Convercent, 929 Broadway, and runs until 8; admission is $10 and reservations are a must. Go to downtowndenver.com for registration and more information about future CityBuild events.
