The Mind’s Eye

Seasoned Denver actress, playwright and comedian Edith Weiss has been on many stages in her lifetime, but none of them have been quite like those overseen by local director Adam Stone, a bright enigma whose experimental work is unlike anything anyone’s ever seen before. Weiss returns tonight in 'til Death, a three-person work she’s still trying to untangle in her mind.

This is Weiss’s second collaboration with Stone. “One time in rehearsal, he said to us, ‘If you guys ever want to surprise me and do another play in the middle of this one, that’s okay with me,’ she recalls. “But, oh, no. I’m just trying to grasp what’s going on in this one.” Yet Stone, who combines video projection and music into the overall staging and even does a lot of his own tech, can be wide open as a director while still retaining a clear vision of what he wants to see unfold.

'Til Death, Weiss says, is essentially a dark comedy and love story, but it’s a whopper: “An older woman meets an older man on a park bench and falls in love for first time in her life. For her, it’s the first time ever and last time ever, and in the next 75 minutes, it’s like every love story ever written is shaken up and explored and...exploded.”
