The painting depicts a shapely blonde woman, dressed in cowboy boots and a line-dancing dress, flying through the air with a pistol in her hand. Done by Fort Collins artist Tracy Stuckey, the piece was inspired by a folk tale about Slue Foot Sue and Pecos Bill, whose romance was thwarted when Sue was bounced off Bill’s horse on their wedding day.
“We kept asking about that piece and eventually decided to build our whole event around it, and around the fun side of art,” says Casey Berry of Imbibe Denver, which has organized Slue Foot Sue’s Shindig in conjunction with the City of Denver. Created as a way to showcase The New West: Contemporary Perspectives of the Rocky Mountain Region, an exhibit on display inside the McNichols Building in Civic Center Park, the Shindig is also a mini-beer festival and Rockmount Ranch Wear trunk show.
