One thing is true for most dance groups, and that’s the ongoing force of change and transition, which seems to echo choreography itself in terms of real-life intensity. Patrick Mueller’s Control Group Productions has been dancing from foothold to foothold since its early days at the industrial Packing House venue in RiNo and a period during which it shared work | space with the LIDA Project theater group. But the troupe will have its turn in cushier climes this weekend, at the Studio Loft in the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, for (the world we’ve created), an evening of immersive-movement performances in collaboration with Kim Olson/SWEET EDGE. Two premieres — Control Group’s “Salon Romantik, op.5: Creation” and SWEET EDGE’s “Wake the Dangerous Poet” — bookend the family-friendly, interdisciplinary installation.
Olson says the collaboration represents “a jumping-off place for what will come. I have so much in my head — so many ideas and structures. I’m reveling in them and waiting for shakubuku and inspiration to weld it all together,” adding that “Wake” represents “a reconfiguring of sensory experience and reactive impulses in the face of the unknown.”
