“In the past five years, street art’s become more mainstream, and some people are definitely part of that wave,” Kooiman says. “In Longmont, it’s still not necessarily considered an accepted art form, because they see it on the street instead of in a gallery setting.” Her mission is to help break down those societal barriers by sharing street art’s creative freedom with the public.
Street Werkz will be on view at Firehouse, 667 Fourth Avenue in Longmont, through July 20; at tonight’s reception from 6 to 9 p.m., guests can walk from one street environment to another and even leave their own tags on a special wall. Go to firehouseart.org or call 303-651-2787 for details.
Wednesdays-Saturdays; Fri., July 11, 6-10 p.m. Starts: June 27. Continues through July 20, 2014
