3 things to do for free in Denver this week, January 14-17
Just because the temperature's dropping doesn't mean you have to hole up inside and browse the dregs of Netflix for something new on instant watch. We've got three events this week that are definitely worth braving the cold for -- and they're all free. From a Motown night with free fried chicken and waffles to a knitting and Tale of Two Cities-watching party to a live evening of storytelling, you have plenty of entertainment options. Knitters rejoice: Fresh City Life's freestyle knitting party is back after a holiday break with a special screening of the 2011A Tale of Two Cities
. Eat complimentary bread and drink hot tea, hang out with other crafters, knit while you watch the movie -- and catch the knitting salon's namesake, Madame Defarge, a needlepointing villain who weaves the names of guillotine victims into her knitting. Hopefully, your crafts will be less creepy.
Motown Tuesdays at Beauty Bar (Tuesday) Resident DJs Maladjusted and Caramello make Beauty Bar the place to hang out and dance to the best Motown and soul music every Tuesday night, as well as eat free fried chicken and waffles. The night will be enhanced by tunes from special guests DJ Vajra and Gyp Dahip, who will bring soul and funk tunes that are sure to get you dancing off all the calories from that free food.
The Narrators at the Deer Pile (Thursday) Every month, Andrew Orvedahl and Robert Rutherford host The Narrators, a night of creative people sharing true stories inspired by a monthly theme. This month's is titled "Adults Only," so you can expect funny, dramatic and touching tales. The event is also promising a surprise guest who's bound to add to the entertainment level.
