Every year, the Museo de las Américas paints the town red with a "rojo"-themed fundraiser exploring a different stratum of Latin culture. This year, it's going for a song: Rojo Canción will revolve around music, but with plenty of partying in between at Su Teatro, 721 Santa Fe Drive, just down the road from the Museo itself. It all begins with a silent auction at 5 p.m.; at 7:30 p.m., the centerpiece of the evening -- the New York band Pistolera, whose music has been heard on Breaking Bad and NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts -- will hit the stage for a richly diverse performance of music that channels traditional genres and instrumentation through an indie-rock sensibility.

Led by singer-songwriter Sandra Velasquez, with astute backup in particular from accordionist Maria Elena, Pistolera is shooting for the moon, and you wouldn't want to miss a band so clearly on its way up, would you? But that's not all. After the show, there's an after-party with dancing (band included!) and, yup, tequila shooters, from 9:30 to 11 p.m.

Admission is $25 for the fundraiser and concert and $10 to $15 for the after-party; visit the Eventbrite page at rojocancion-es2.eventbrite.com to purchase tickets, or call 303-571-4401.
Fri., Sept. 14, 5 p.m., 2012
