Museum of Contemorary Art/Denver director and curator Cydney Payton made her final choices in the Cydney Payton Design Challenge, in which eight designers from the Tamarac Square Fashion Project sketched her a “museum-opening oufit” (appropriate since the new MCA building opens this fall). Payton considered both the artistic and stylistic nature of the sketches, and after a lot of deliberating chose:

Runners up: Mona Lucero and Jose Clark

Winner: Tricia Hoke

Here are Payton's thoughts on Tricia’s design: “It is an exuberant drawing. The line of the cloth is interesting, unique and versatile. It takes from current fashion - such as Miu, Miu and Marni. It's soft, yet edge-y. There are many eras and influences sited in this piece. The drawing looks like it refers to Manga, Japanese comic book imagery.”

And her thoughts on Mona Lucero: “This piece is great because it takes inspiration directly from a work of art, and I like the tailored look.”

And Jose Clark: “The drawing is beautiful and well-executed. There is a wonderful description of materials and textures.”

Tricia came home from the finale of the Fashion Project, where Cat announced she won the Cydney Payton Design Challenge, with a sketch book, a night’s lodging at the Adam’s Mark hotel, $100 gift certificate to Max Gill and Grill, two tickets to Sondheim’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (provided by Denver Center Attractions; thank you), two tickets to the Peace Project, the current exhibit at MCA, and a meet-and-greet with the chic one herself.

Mona and Jose get to choose between two tickets to see Wicked (the costumes are supposed to be fabulous) or two tickets to any concert at Red Rocks. (Thanks to Denver’s Theaters and Arenas division for providing those great prizes.)

Congrats to everyone!
