Throw the roof rack back on your car and dig out your winter gear, because storms this week deposited deep powder on both Loveland and Arapahoe Basin, the last two ski areas standing in Colorado. Loveland got 31 inches from the storm, A-Basin got 17, and OpenSnow.com forecaster Joel Gratz says to expect "significant snow Saturday night through Sunday evening," just in time for closing day at Loveland.

May the 4th be with you! Everyone who held on to a few sick days for the end of the season was experiencing "unseasonably high stoke" at Loveland this week, as snowboarder Rick Cross put it on Wednesday, riding in some of the deepest powder of the season. With pockets of waist-deep snow still to be found all over the mountain and more on the way, let's just say this is going to be one closing weekend bash you don't want to miss. Red Bull is sponsoring Saturday's festivities, with DJ NME pumping out the jams at the base area Basin Patio for the après party. The Arnie J Green Band closes it down on Sunday. Skiing on the Fourth of July? While A-Basin vice president Alan Henceroth hasn't yet committed to the fabled fireworks date of yore, 17 inches this week won't hurt and the ski area is primed to keep the spring stoke alive through at least the end of May. In fact, the party's just getting started: The Shakin' at the Basin May concert series kicks off on Saturday with Fort Collins-based Eufórquestra playing from 1 to 4 p.m. The ninth annual Red Ball Beach Bash fundraiser for the Keystone Science School Campership Fund comes to A-Basin on Sunday ($5 for a chance to win the lottery-style game, with free music by Oakhurst starting at noon), and other upcoming events on the calendar include free concerts by The Congress (May 10), Funky Johnson (May 17), High Five (May 24), and The Champions (May 31), as well as the thirteenth annual Festival of the Brewpubs on Sunday, May 25, featuring brews from twelve Colorado breweries and live music by White Water Ramble.
