Bottoms Up

Even politicians, whose careers frequently hinge on a perpetual state of economic denial, are beginning to face up to the ugly fact that this country is in the grips of a full-blown recession. In trying times such as these, people naturally turn toward the time-honored traditional means of dealing with economic hardship. No, it's not buckling down, working harder and practicing thrift, you poor, naive sucker. It's blotting out your trials and tribulations with as much cheap hooch as you can pour down your gullet. In that spirit, the Recession Sessions have arrived to make your Wednesdays bearable.

"The idea was born after one other buddy of mine lost his job in real estate along with me," recalls Tyler Levey. "We were like, 'You know what? What else is there to do besides throw a party and dwell in our own personal recession along with the rest of the economy's recession?'"

Tonight's Session starts at 8 p.m. and goes until close at Below Bar, 1422 Larimer, in the alley between 14th and 15th streets and Larimer and Lawrence. Enjoy a plethora of cheap drink and food specials with clever, recession-themed names such as Late on Your Rent Lager — $2 PBR — and the Food Stamp Special, a $2 slice of pizza. DJ FunkyGreenie will provide a hip mix of indie/electro/retro '80s tunes, and the plush, luxurious setting will help you feel like royalty while you're there, no matter what kind of a hovel you eventually have to head home to. For more information, visit Call or text Tyler at 1-402-770-3593 for bottle reservations.
