Sean Andersen-Vie, the public relations specialist for the Denver Zoo, swears that no one has ever gotten so blasted at the Brew at the Zoo that they’ve tumbled into the lion’s den or dived into elephant dung, but there’s a first time for everything. And considering the 3,000 people expected to hang with the animals at tonight’s suds safari, it could happen. Doubtful, but not impossible.

In any case, the annual beer fest, which benefits the Red Apple Fund for Lifelong Learning, a scholarship fund of the Denver Zoo, swings into motion at 7 p.m. with more than forty Colorado breweries pouring their best barley and hops. In addition, several local restau-rants, including the Cherry Cricket, Wazee Supper Club, Pearl Street Grill and Chipotle, will hustle appetizers, and the Denver Dueling DJs will spin tunes. “There are lots of beer events in Denver, but where else can you watch a lion and drink a beer?” deadpans Anderson-Vie. “We’ve also spread out the layout of this year’s event, so that guests can mingle more easily and see a lot more of the animals.” Four-ounce beer pours will be unlimited. Hiccup.
