It's that time of year again -- time to dust off your best shit-kickers and pomade your hair, because the National Western Stock Show is returning to our beloved cowtown and kicking it off with the traditional National Western Stock Show Parade. As always, the parade will include floats, horseback riders, plenty of cowboys and cowgirls, and a cattle drive with Texas longhorns being steered from Union Station down 17th Street starting at high noon.

The celebrity guest rider this year will be former Denver mayor and two-time Bill Clinton cabinet member Federico Pena. "Not sure if the governor or mayor will ride, but we've invited them to join us on a stagecoach or surrey this year," adds marketing director Bonnie Blitz.

Pre-parade festivities will also include the National Western Barbeque at 11:30 a.m. in the atrium of the Wells Fargo Building, where $9 will get you lunch with Western music and a VIP Western fashion show.

The parade takes off from Union Station, 1701 Wynkoop Street; for more information and a list of 2011 events, check out the NWSS website at www.nationalwestern.com.
