After eight years of running his magazine’s signature Adventures event in, of all places, New York City, Backpacker magazine editor-in-chief Jonathan Dorn says he’s eager to bring Adventures Denver to Sloan’s Lake Park. “We look at these events as a way to share all the different activities that we cover in our magazines with new audiences and show people how easy and accessible and fun and healthy outdoor recreation can be,” Dorn says. “We’ve been successful for a number of years with our Adventures NYC in Central Park, and since we’re based here in Boulder, we wanted to expand on it with a Colorado event.”
Free activities include kayaking, stand-up paddling, canoeing, fishing, bike demos, a rock-climbing wall, and clinics on making the most of camping and backpacking here in Colorado, including a run-down of great adventures to be had within fifty miles of Denver. Editors from Backpacker, Climbing and Urban Climber will be on hand to answer questions, as well representatives from Viva Colorado, Denver Parks and Recreation, Big City Mountaineers, and a number of sponsors including the North Face and REI.
