Collective Items

On the surface, it doesn’t seem as though Denver, Chicago and Miami have all that much in common. But consider this: Right now, these are the only three cities where you can find Rubi Rey rum, Bacardi’s new high-end brand of alcohol. And they’re also the only three cities where you can find the Rubi Rey-sponsored gallery known as the86collective, a display of 86 progressive works of art by a range of local up-and-coming notables; the gallery is constantly changing, since the aim is to expose new digital art masterpieces and uncover new artists. The quality of painting, photography and music is enhanced using computers and robotics; the results “promote technology as an enabler of brilliance,” according to the collective’s website. An expert panel of art professionals and collectors (including Plus Gallery’s Ivar Zeile and the Lab’s own Adam Lerner) selected the works for the Denver-specific 86collective exhibit, RUCKUS, REPEAT, RUCKUS: Visual Noise, which can be viewed starting Wednesday, June 18 at the Laboratory of Art and Ideas, 404 South Upham Street in Lakewood’s Belmar. RUCKUS is on view through July 20; visit or for information.
