Need some summer reading? While you wait for the release of Nothing Short of Dying, the new book by Colorado author Erik Storey, try an offering from his ten (current) favorite thriller authors. Here’s his description of what to expect from each one:

Steve Berry: If you love thrillers infused with history and political intrigue, you should check out his Cotton Malone series.

Lee Child: Jack Reacher’s exploits are fun to follow because the man is solid in both mind and muscle, and the evil of the world breaks against him like waves on a rocky coast.

Blake Crouch: A fellow Colorado native, Crouch wrote the Wayward Pines series, but his scariest work is his early and latest thrillers.

Nelson Demille: All of his books are great, but I’ll never forget reading The Quest, which is one of the best adventure stories out there.

Sean Doolittle: His crime thrillers are lean, tight, gritty and scary as hell.

Joseph Finder: My new favorite series character is Finder’s Nick Heller, who is smart, resourceful, tough, funny and fun.

Vince Flynn: Who doesn’t love reading about Mitch Rapp, a one-man army that terminates terrorists the way we swat flies?

Stephen Hunter: I’ve read every book in the Bob Lee Swagger series, and anyone who loves a well-written adventure with a hard-nosed yet personable main character should, as well.

David Morrell: He wrote First Blood, featuring a drifter named Rambo, which may be the best thriller of all time.

Wilbur Smith: I’ll read almost any African adventure story, but his are the best.

Erik Storey will be reading from Nothing Short of Dying at the Tattered Cover on Colfax at 7 p.m. on August 30. Find out more at tatteredcover.com.
