Cassettes defeated eight-tracks. VHS trumped Beta. And Blu-ray recently overtook HD-DVD — which makes the timing of Disney's Magical Blu-Ray Tour mighty fortuitous. "Blu-ray has now become the high-definition standard," Disney Blu-ray spokeswoman Andi Matheny says of the display, which debuts today. "And we're letting the average person really experience it."

Blu-ray novices can check out the technology via what Matheny calls a "sizzle reel" of clips from Disney flicks such as Ratatouille with assistance from a top-of-the-line sound system and a 65-inch Panasonic screen. "You'll be able to see every single hair on every rat," Matheny promises. In addition, attendees can test out special features such as a liar's dice game included on the Blu-ray edition of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Winner takes all.

Disney's Magical Blu-Ray Tour opens at FlatIron Crossing, 1 West FlatIron Circle in Broomfield, at 10 a.m. and runs through March 16. Learn more about this free program at www.FlatIronCrossing.com or 720-887-7467.
March 14-15, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sun., March 16, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., 2008
