Public Art Dedication: Lakewood Legacy Trees

5:30 p.m. May 30, Lamar Street Light Rail Station, West 13th Avenue and Lamar Street, Lakewood.

Lakewood's growing 40 West Art District has a new piece of public art to celebrate, and it's a project by one of its own: Artist Lonnie Hanzon designed Lakewood Legacy Trees for RTD's new W Light Rail line's Lamar Street Station. Lakewood mayor Bob Murphy and other dignitaries will gather there at 5:30 p.m. to cut the ribbon on the whimsical, history-infused installation of sculptural trees rising from a foundation of leaf-engraved bricks; afterward, the party will move to 40 West Gallery for a formal reception.

2014 Members' Show

Colorado Photographic Arts Center

May 31 through June 28

Opening reception: 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31

Veteran photographer and local arts mover Mark Sink juried this annual show, narrowing nearly 500 entries down to 62. This might sound like a hard swim through too many images, but as Sink writes: "I like to introduce hungry galleries and curators to new work I have discovered. Mastery of craft, interesting concept, personal voice, and alternative and unusual process are key words in determining what I look for when reviewing and selecting work. I made several new discoveries, and I am so very happy to be reacquainted with many people through this exhibition." The voice of experience. Expect a fabulous survey of regional photography, brought to you by an artist who lives and breathes it.
