Can you spin a plate on your fingertips? Are you the best tap-dancing burlesque performer on the scene? Maybe you’ve got the ukulele chops of Tiny Tim. Whatever your strange and unusual skill, the Sounds on 29th Live Gong Show wants you. Tonight, 3 Kings Tavern will host its own version of the famous TV talent search; the evening will also serve as a celebration of the 2013 season of Colorado Public Television’s Sounds on 29th — a Denver-based entertainment project that works with local bands and comedians in a live format — and a fundraiser for next year’s filming of the series at Channel 12’s studio in Five Points.

Tonight’s program, notes Sounds producer Heather Dalton, was born of nostalgia: “Growing up in the ’70s and being huge fans of the original Gong Show, we thought it would be fun to celebrate the close of the season...and give people a chance to make giant asses of themselves.” During the show, brave contestants can do whatever they want on stage, though they risk getting “gonged” if the performance derails. But with Sid Pink as host, a revolving panel of comedic heavyweights like Kristin Rand, Heather Snow, Sam Tallent and Mara Wiles in the judges’ box, and live music by Denver three-piece Rubedo, the evening promises to be entertaining regardless of the contestants’ talent level.
