High on the Hog

If you are free through April 4 and have an extra $1,000 lying around, you might want to load up the Escalade and drive up I-70 for the nineteenth annual Taste of Vail. The four-day event, featuring thirty chefs and fifty winemakers, will consist of a variety of tastings, classes, seminars and delicious gourmet meals. Chefs will try to wrangle the Colorado mainstay in the 5th Annual Colorado Lamb Cookoff, which will launch the event.

From there you can attend one of the many seminars focused on culinary topics, including wine tasting and cigar and Grand Marnier tastings. On Friday night, there will be a live auction, and Saturday night will feature the Grand Tasting and Dinner Dance, which comprises what www.tasteofvail.com calls ‘the granddaddy of wine and food tastings.’ The website has a detailed list of events, special guests and prices.

A plethora of Vail’s own eateries will participate as well, including Grouse Mountain Grill, Restaurant Kelly Liken and Two Elk, which is situated as a gateway to China Bowl and Blue Sky Basin. For anyone who’s ever wondered if food tastes better at 11,000 feet, here is your chance to find out.
