For the past two years, the History Colorado Center has been going up at 12th Avenue and Broadway, but the public hasn't been allowed to see inside the state's new history museum -- until now. Tomorrow from 2 to 6:30 pm, the Urban Land Institute Colorado, a land-use research and education organization, will be hosting a "Civic Center Ramble," a discussion and walking tour of the $800 million in new projects that have been going up around the Civic Center, from the Denver Justice Center to the Clyfford Still Museum to the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center. Even better, the opening discussion and post-tour reception will occur inside the History Colorado Center, likely one of the few times the public will be allowed inside until it officially opens in spring 2012.

In other words, folks at the event, part of ULI Colorado's "Explorer Series, will get a first-hand view of the building that Westword's Michael Paglia, in a 2009 review, called "a worthy addition to a neighborhood that already has buildings by the likes of Gio Ponti, Michael Graves and Daniel Libeskind." The History Colorado Center will be the scene of a pre-walk panel that includes many of the people responsible for the new Civic Center projects, including local architects Curt Fentress, Brian Klipp and David Tryba of Tryba Architects

Unfortunately, the shindig ain't free, but with the perks involved, what do you expect? A full-price ticket costs $85, but there are a lot of potential discounts, such as if you're a ULI member, are associated with a nonprofit or are under the age of 35. If you're interested, you better act quick and register by calling 303-893-1760, since the registration is limited to the first 100. After that, your chances of scoring a golden ticket to this impressive event are going to be history.
