Brian Finn recommends arriving early today in Gold Hill, since the tiny mountain villages fire department will host a pancake breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. The town parade, featuring fire trucks and childrens bikes, follows; it usually has more viewers than participants, Finn advises. But the main event is at Finns Gold Hill Inn, where the annual Fourth of July Twang Feast and Bar-B-Que features the sort of family-friendly music and stomach-satisfying food thats been attracting folks to this old Boulder County mining town for at least thirty years.
This years outdoor party, which begins at noon and continues until 5 p.m., includes live music by three rootsy bands Halden Wofford and the Hi-Beams, the Jeff and Vida Band, and Finders and Youngberg and a grilled-chicken lunch with all the fixings on the Gold Hill Inn patio. This is the perfect place to get out of the city and out of the heat, and with all the rain weve had, its so beautiful up here right now, Finn teases.
