Last weekend of skiing arrives for five resorts
It seems like the ski season started just yesterday, but already, some resorts will be having their last days of the season on Sunday, April 4, so get out while you still can. Some of this weekend's closures include big resorts. Events will be in full swing Easter weekend at many resorts, but you might want to hit one of these areas, because you won't have a chance to get turns on them until next fall.
The Highlands and Buttermilk will both shut down their lifts on April 4 (Aspen Mountain and Snowmass will follow a week later). Nothing has officially been announced yet on the Aspen/Snowmass website, beyond mention of live music and parties at the Highlands on Sunday. Get out after the famed Highlands Bowl one last time this season.
Crested Butte, home of some of the best in-bound steeps in Colorado, and site of both alpine extreme and telemark extreme competitions, is currently offering steep discounts on season passes for next year through closing date on the 4th.
Ski Cooper is planning to end its season with fun. An Easter Egg hunt begins at 9 a.m. Over 3,500 eggs will be hidden on the mountain. If you find a golden "Cooper Egg," you win a pass for next season. The hunt will be divided into three age divisions: five and under, six to 10, and 11 to 15. If you don't have a season pass or the $$$ for a lift ticket, you can always get creative and go to the mountain dressed as Sasquatch and get a free ticket for the day!
To hell-you-ride! Telluride is one of the few mountain towns that's figured out how to keep busy all year long. Sure, the slopes shut down this year on the 4th. Starting at 10 a.m., kids seven and under can take part in an Easter Egg hunt. The Easter Bunny will also be on hand for skiing, surely a sight to see. Of course, with the mountain shutting down, it means it's time for Telluride to gear up for Festival season. Telluride Bluegrass anyone?
Stay tuned for more closing info and events in the weeks to come.
