Mile High Sci-Fi gives bad films a second chance by brightening them up with a little live comedy. In advance of December 21, which could be Earth’s last day, the group is screening a free film tonight. But there’s a twist. “Every Christmas, we decide generally to do a film that will be free,” explains Keith Garcia, programming manager at the SIE FilmCenter. “But the situation is, people won’t know what it is until it starts.”

Garcia does offer one clue: Since the Mile High Sci-Fi Free Secret Film will be shown one day before the predicted end of the world, it will have an apocalyptic theme. The event will be hosted by Harrison Raines, and local comedians Nathan Lund, Chris Charpentier and Sam Tallent will be on hand to greet the coming apocalypse with a few laughs. The screening starts at 7:30 p.m. at the SIE FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax Avenue; free tickets will be available at the box office starting at 6:30 p.m. If you want to be sure you get a seat, Mile High Sci-Fi is holding a contest that will guarantee the winner a spot; sign up on the MHSF e-mail list for updates or check www.milehighscifi.com.
