Open for Design gives power to the people at the Denver Art Museum
We go to art museums to see capital-A "Art," work created by a global colony of recognized artists. And it's an experience that's definitely worthwhile: The artists good enough to show in museums offer us visual and visceral challenges, tickling our funny bones and breaking our hearts. But what if, just once, the people usually relegated to looking actually took over the walls of the art museum?
That's what happened at the Denver Art Museum this past weekend, when Open for Design, a community challenge that asked citizens to create a visual model showing how they would improve their neighborhoods through unique design projects, debuted. And happily the show, which remains on view at the DAM through September 2, is bountiful, cheerful and full of wonderful ideas -- some serious, many whimsical and all of them well-conceived.
We've collected a few of our favorites here.
