What happens each First Friday on Santa Fe Drive never fails to amaze me: The whole street becomes this living, animal thing, as culture-goers snake this way and that on the overflowing sidewalks in long, organic conga lines of humanity. It's a thing, Denver! Be proud. This past Friday, we saw pirates and belly dancers and hip-hoppers and snowboard designers on street corners, and, for an extra-special touch, folks celebrating Andy Warhol's birthday, which magically fell on the same day. After the jump, see a few of the sights we saw (and if that piques your interest, check out Eric Gruneisen's Santa Fe slide show).
This woman showed up at the "Warholove" show at Niza Knoll Gallery dressed for the occasion.
As did this mod young lady at CORE New Art Space.
Jimi Bernath papered the street with Warhol-style posters of the late Denver artist Brandon Borchert.
A sidetrip back in time at Cha Cha Muchacha.
Belly dancers in a hurry.
For an impromptu performance with burlesque-ish overtones.
