It should come as no surprise to anyone that journalist and activist Mariane Pearl will speak as part of the tenth annual Unique Lives & Experiences lecture series, which focuses on women who showcase the grace and resilience of the human spirit. Many know Pearl primarily as the widow of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002, while Mariane was pregnant with their son, Adam Daniel (he was born three months after his father's death). But Mariane is a well-respected journalist in her own right. She traveled the world with her late husband, covering global events; shes penned her "Global Diary" column among other pieces for Glamour magazine, shedding light on the plight of oppressed women all over the planet; and her memoir, A Mighty Heart, was made into a film starring Dan Futtterman as Daniel and Angelina Jolie as Mariane.
