“The world’s only Rocky Mountain Jewgrass band” will take over Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe Street, at 7 p.m. tonight for The Purim Show, an evening of singing, dancing, drinking and the celebratory consumption of hamentaschen. In fact, we'd like to point out that the three-pointed pastries will not only be on hand, but they'll be free! There will also be songs about food -- as well as Jewish history and traditions -- set to fiddle compositions and banjo breakdowns.

Bandleader Saul Rosenthal jokes that the premise behind the celebration is basically, “They tried to kill us, the Jews won, let’s go eat!” And so the carnival-style party will be serving plenty of appetizers and booze (for a price), and in addition to the Jewgrass Band’s festive performance, there will be a Purim costume contest -- with prizes including a big bottle of Manischewitz. Tickets are $18 and available through www.lannies.com or by calling the box office at 303-293-0075.
Sun., March 20, 7 p.m., 2011
