The BNC has a long history of working with a diverse selection of artists around town, and in fact, this is not the first collaboration between BNC and Lighthouse.
“The original one was called Love. A Joint Venture; Garrett had the idea to have some of our faculty write pieces and then choreographers would create ballet based on the writing,” recalls Henry. “That went really well, and Garrett and I had so much fun doing it, we agreed we should do a full-length.”
The resulting performance is based on Henry’s narrative poem of a high-school senior who runs away from home and the devastation he leaves in his wake; Ammon provides the choreography, and the production retains Henry’s character monologues, whether performed live or via recording. And Henry is pleased enough with it to offer this advice to his colleagues: “Any time a ballet troupe calls you and says they want to perform your poetry to ballet, say yes.”
Intersection debuts tonight at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 South Allison Parkway, and lasts through the weekend, moving to the Performing Arts Complex at Pinnacle Charter School, 1001 West 84th Avenue, next weekend and closing there.
