Room to Grow

What better place to enjoy two of the greatest fruits of our earth — grapes and hops — than in a garden? And while you won’t find either crop growing at the Denver Botanic Gardens, you can celebrate them anyway at tonight’s Garden Grapes & Hops — a party featuring all-you-can-eat food from restaurants like Bombay Clay Oven, Lik’s Ice Cream, Pasquini’s and the Cherry Cricket, as well as beer from the Wynkoop Brewing Company, wine from Barefoot Wine, and live entertainment from Chris Daniels & the Kings.

The party was named for its two primary sponsors, the Wynkoop and Barefoot, and is designed to highlight the beauty of the place, says DBG spokesman Will Jones.

In addition, the Gardens will auction off forty to fifty festive flower pots decorated by area artists and sturdy enough to be used outdoors. “They are starting to come in now, and some of the creations are really, really sweet,” Jones says.

The party lasts from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the DBG, 1005 York Street. Tickets are $30 for members, $35 for non-members, $25 for artists and $15 for kids ages four to twelve. Proceeds benefit the Gardens’ annual fund. For information and tickets, log on to
