Bicycling is freakin' cool. It is. Rollerblading never even neared cycling's mastery of coolness. Actually, there's nothing that can contend with biking, and apparently, more than 18,000 people in metro Denver agree: That's how many participated in last year's Bike to Work Day.

"This year, we expect around 20,000 people," exclaims event coordinator Mia Bemelen. That's not even counting the citizens of Boulder, who — in line with their tree-hugging reputation — are offering non-stop events for Bike Week, beginning with Naropa University's Adult Bike Rodeo today from noon to 3 p.m. at 2130 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder. Go to www.ci.boulder.co.us for a complete listing of daily happenings.

All of the events lead up to the big shebang on Wednesday, the official Bike to Work Day. Expect a day-long, citywide, two-wheel extravaganza where bikers will rule the roadways, even in Denver.

For information and event locations, or to register for company participation, go to www.drcog.org/btwd2006 or call 303-458-7665.
