In club lingo, a "mash-up" is two or more seemingly dissimilar popular songs combined into a unified creation. "Bootie" is a double entendre, referring to the illegal nature of said pirated songs and what you shake when you hear them. Maybe this sounds too much like those tired rock/rap remixes epitomized by Jay-Z and Linkin Park, but the first-ever Bootie Denver is a slightly more complex night of dancing.

"Until recently, most mash-ups have been rap lyrics over rock instrumentals," says promoter Doug Bohm. "What we're doing is combining multiple songs in far more complex ways." Think "Sympathy for the Devil" lyrics mixed with "Another One Bites the Dust" instrumentals finished with the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" chorus.

Sound like an ear-fuck? Listen for yourself tonight starting at 9 p.m. at Bar Standard, 1037 Broadway. Tickets are $8 in advance or $12 at the door. For more information, go to www.bootiedenver.com or call 303-832-8628.
