Here's your chance to make some history.

History Colorado -- or the Colorado Historical Society, as it was known back when it started in 1879 -- will begin a new chapter next spring, when the Colorado History Center opens on Broadway. And in the meantime, it's collecting photos of Coloradans for the "Share Your Story" contest -- and the winner, to be determined by fellow Coloradans, will get an all-inclusive adventure stay for four in Glenwood Springs.

Here are the details:

DENVER -- History Colorado is calling all Coloradans to dress up, snap a photo and, most importantly, share it and the story behind it for History Colorado's "Share Your Story" contest for a chance to win a family overnight getaway for four to Glenwood Springs! Entries should be photos of individuals, kids or families dressed up that tell a Colorado story -- past, present, or future - along with a brief description of the story. The "Share Your Story" photo contest will be open to Colorado residents 18 years of age or older beginning on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 at 8 a.m. MT and ends on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. MT.

What Photos Can I Submit? Take a picture of yourself, your kids, or your whole family dressed up to tell a Colorado story. Dress up to look like your favorite Colorado characters and figures--an adventurer of centuries past, perhaps a Colorado sports figure, or a picture of you in a uniform or a costume that relates to your cultural heritage and family legacy in Colorado; or maybe you'll invent a futuristic character -- someone you think has yet to leave their legacy on Colorado's history.

What Story Should I Submit With My Photo? We want to give the world an opportunity to hear your story -- a story about the people of Colorado! Tell us about the experiences, memories, and people who have helped shape (or that you hope will shape!) your Colorado story. Tell us in 250 words or less, who you are and why you chose the characters you did. Why is this scene important to you, your family, and Colorado? How has this person (or this group of people) influenced your life and, ultimately, your personal Colorado experience?

How Should I Submit My Photo? Details are on www.facebook.com/HistoryColorado. Limited to one photo entry per household.

How Are Finalists Selected? History Colorado will select five finalists from all eligible entries. Criteria for finalist selection are based on overall relation to Colorado; presentation and appearance of the photo; and readability, creativity, and relevance of the description submitted with entry. Finalists will be selected between Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, and Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. One finalist will be selected for each of the following five categories: 1) Cutest, 2) Funniest, 3) Most Innovative, 4) Most Sentimental and 5) Most Historic. Each of these finalists will then be presented for a public vote on the Facebook page.

How Is a Winner Selected? The Grand Prize winner will be determined among the five finalists by public votes received through the History Colorado contest page on Facebook between Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 and Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011. A runner up prize will be awarded to the finalist according to vote count. A random drawing from all eligible entries will be conducted to select a winner to receive a family Charter Membership. All winners will be announced on or around Friday, December 2, 2011 via History Colorado's Facebook page.

Prizes:

* Grand Prize: An all-inclusive adventure getaway package for a family of four to historic Glenwood Springs PLUS a family History Colorado Charter Membership. * Runner Up: A History Colorado Gift Basket PLUS a family History Colorado Charter Membership. * Overall: A family History Colorado Charter Membership awarded to one of all entries.

Official contest rules are posted on www.facebook.com/HistoryColorado.

Although the prize package is a stay in Glenwood Springs, we suggest you stay away from dressing up as that town's most infamous visitor, serial killer Ted Bundy, who escaped from the Glenwood Springs jail during his murderous spree. A much better bet, historically speaking, might be Doc Holliday, a much more respectable killer who's buried in the town cemetery.
