That’s not the case quite yet, but you’ll be able to find two of the three at the Oriental Theater during tonight’s Holiday Sausage Fest. Part of Khalatbari’s Sexpot Comedy series, the fest will include national comics Sean Patton and Mike Lawrence, who will join local favorites Ben Roy and Jordan Doll. “It’s really a lineup that, in my opinion, is full of four national comics,” says Khalatbari, acknowledging the growing success of Denver comics outside of Colorado. “It’s a little bit edgy; it’s not boilerplate. We’re doing it ourselves, we’re doing it our own way, and it’s going to be something I feel that, ten years from now, we’ll look back at the comedy scene in Denver, especially, and really see that something special happened.”
The evening kicks off at 8 p.m. at the Oriental, 4335 West 44th Avenue; tickets are $15 (at the door or at theorientaltheater.com) and include a coupon for a free large pizza at the growing pie chain’s new Jefferson Park location, where Khalatbari plans to offer more comedy in the new year.
