The Dikeou Collection is known for its innovative, ingenious literary and art programs, and here’s another one to add to the list: Five Denver Writers, hosted by Oren Silverman and featuring a quintet of local wordsmiths who have books coming out almost simultaneously.

“A lot of it is poetry, but it’s not necessarily the poetry you’d find in a Hallmark greeting card,” explains Richard Froude, one of the five Denver writers. “It’s experimental writing. It’s on the cusp of the most exciting things that are happening. It occurred to me — and to all of us — that we all had books coming out within a one-month period, and we wanted to mark that occasion. We all live and write in Denver, and for all of this to happen at the same time seemed like a special thing and illustrates how much is going on in the literary and poetry scenes in Denver and the Front Range.”

The reading starts tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Dikeou Collection, 1615 California Street, Suite 515; admission is free. “Expect an entertaining reading, and expect to think about — and to be drawn to think about — things that you might not otherwise,” urges Froude. “This is just a small slice of what’s going on in Denver. These by no means are the only people with new ideas; it’s really indicative of how the scene is burgeoning.”
