Best Radio Talk-Show Host Denver 2007 - Jay Marvin

Readers' Choice: Peter Boyles
Air America Radio, which supplies most of AM 760's content, isn't in the best of health; the network filed for bankruptcy last year, and while it was subsequently purchased by Green Family Media, the recent departure of comic-turned-senatorial-candidate Al Franken doesn't help. But Jay Marvin gives local liberals an excellent reason to keep tuning in. He may be less excitable than he was during his stint with KHOW in the '90s, but he remains an impassioned commentator who's able to balance righteous indignation with personal warmth. He's the talk of the town.

Shelly Kalnitsky is the director of the Cell Phone Radiation News Bureau, the source for learning more about the potential health risks from cell and cordless phones. Our website www.cprnews.com provides updated information from news sources around the world under world news. There are over 150 studies now posted.Kalnitsky established the bureau when he began researching world news on cell phones and discovered that information abroad included studies conducted by prominent scientists that reached very different conclusions than what is being reported in the United States. As well concerns about the danger to children, misinformation on hands free kits and a lack of independent and unbiased reporting on cell phone issues prompted the formation of this one stop information center.. This effort is intended to keep the public consumer informed and to prevent future health related problems from cell phone use.Shelly Kalnitsky is available for interviews at 561-989-9147 in Florida.

Ive been traveling and havent had a chance to check out Westword with any regularity over the past few months. Ive been a huge fan of Westword in the past, and a fan of Jay Marvins never. I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw that Jay Marvin had been awarded the coveted Best Radio Talk Show Host for 2007. I re-read the category just to be sure they werent talking about hotdogs. This puts me in a quandary. Do I:

a) Swear off Westword because their judgment is clearly flawed?b) Try listening to Jay Marvin again, while simultaneously attempting to keep my breakfast down?c) Simply accept the fact that there must have been a brief tear in the space and time continuum, see it as a blip and move on?

Answer: C

Its hard to imagine that Denver is so desperate for local, progressive talk in the morning that theyre willing to embrace any snake oil salesman theyre handed, whether hes any good at his job or not. Face it. The guy is a bully dullard that can only make his point by out-shouting everyone else. Hes nothing more than the Bill OReilly of your local airwaves.

h Syndication with AAR is an optionh Satellite radio is an optionh NPR is an option

Best of luck Denver.

I appreciate the variety on your show. Keep it more than a radio talk show or you'll fall into a pit - Radio talk shows are about as relevent to real politics as Pro wrestling is to real wrestling. When each wants to censor the other, it's akin to a mad wrestler swinging a folding chair across the back of his opponenet who's pounding his chest towards the audience, and they see what's comming.

I generally like Jay and his championing of the truth, but I think his "Rocky's" ads need a makeover! I KNOW that by naming the individuals that work there personalizes it, but WHERE DID THEY GET THOSE NAMES??? The Alshir Bros.?, conjures up images of two Arabs with table cloths on their heads and sun glasses, "Spanky" Hererra, Colby???, why not Jimmy "The Weasel" or "Jake the Snake"? Funny how most of their commercials cater to Trailer Trash and yet most people who live in double wides couldn't afford 90% of the cars on their lot!

Jay-I sometimes listen or watch right wing radio or Fox News just to see how they are slanting things. A few weeks ago I was outraged by hearing Dan Kaplis ask his callers to call and say what they hated about Hillary Clinton. Fox News slams her all the time. Imagine my disappointment tonight to hear you on the Alan Combs Show asking:"What is it about Hillary that really bothers you?" Why can't you ask simply "Lets talk about Hillary Clinton. Call and talk about why you support her or what it is about her that loses your support?" None of these candidates are flawless, but she stands an excellent chance of being the Democratic nominee, and these forums about"Why do we all dislike Hillary?" do little else besides urge people to vote Republican if she is the Democratic nominee. I should think you would be greatly insulted to be compared to Dan Kaplis, but tonight you sounded just like him. By the way, I listen to your morning show most days, and I am generally a fan of yours.

Jay, You really let me down this morning by taking the low road of insulting my background for the simple reason that I did not agreed with you. Africa had nothing to do with Vic and the dogs fights; I formed that opinion because I have the fact and have red the indictment. Now there is rumers that he is thinking about pleading guilty. I am deeply hurt by your insulting comments and hope that one day you would come to realize that being american involves more than just being born here; it involves letting others forming their opinions on matters without resulting to insulting their background. Take care. Jules

Good afternoon, Jay. While listening to you this a.m., you asked Gina if she felt Jesus, Alla, God, would approve of not permitting children to have healthcare.

The answer to that is found in the book of James of the New Testaments of the Bible where it says that "pure religion and undefiled" is taking care of the widows and children of this world. Pretty much the only time "religion" is mentioned in the Good Book! In this Age of No Accountability, it is sad that the old adage: God first, others second, self last has been changed to Self first, others second and God last. Time to practice what we "preach"!

I was listening to Jay's show this morning, wondering why (despite being a proud liberal) I rarely listen to Air America. It did not take long to remember. Jay was enlightening us as to how ugly certain women (you know those republican types!) were. "Mrs McCain is just strange-looking." Now that is insightful political talk! Especially from a man whose wife looks like a gargoyle after being run over by the ugly truck. You see how utterly stupid this kind of talk is? It makes you sound like Rush Limbaugh -- you have lowered yourself to his level, and he is a lot better at this sort of shrill background noise than you will ever be. In other words, you lose. And don't take my word for it -- look at your station's abysmal ratings, both locally and nation-wide for Air America. Here's an idea. Why not try to raise the level of discourse? Why not try to inform rather than incite? In the meantime, enjoy the sycophantic praise, but do not look too closely at the bottom line -- and when we lose in the court of public opinion yet again in the future, grab the nearest mirror and take a long hard look.

I will listen to Jay and Air America again because I want it to be good. But too much more of this tripe, and I will be switching to the Rockies. Heck, at least they are in the running.

I would be interested in appearing on your talk show to discuss the notion of having a tracking system to ensure that every absentee vote is counted. The Florida legislature is currently discussing having a paper trail to ensure that every vote is counted on Election Day. That's the first step. I feel with absentee voting on the rise the next necessary step is to provide similar accountability for voters who vote by mail. I would like to discuss this issue on your program and talk about a program that exists to track absentee votes.

I would like to comment on the Paris Hilton BS on the news. All day they have mentioned a petition to pardon this girl. A girl is what she is. A women shows ownership and resposibility one thing she has failed to do. She got the DUI send her skinny but to jail. She deserves nothing but pitty and shame. Millions of people everyday follow through with there probations, follow the law, make their restitiutions. Why can't she? The last news report by ABC news said the petition asks she be released because she is pretty and makes America feel good about their boring lives.(not an exact quote)Well I'm pretty and find my life very eventful before and after Paris hit the scene. Those who don't should definatley get out more. How ever said she was pretty sure needs her eyes checked.

Greetings, Jay! I just wanted you to know that you are still loved and missed in Chicago. I enjoyed you and Eileen and Cisco in the mornings so very much. I have listened to you for ages, with some of my fondest memories being when I almost lost control of my vehicle laughing, listening to you and Mr. Grant Park one late snowy evening. It has been a happy experience for me witnessing you evolve as a human being. Thank you for inspiring evolution in us all. Take good care! ~Paula

Uranium mining east of Ft. Collins threatens regions lifestyle and environmental stewardship

On the eve of Earth day, there is a potentially a grave issue facing the health and future of northern Colorado and the Ft. Collins area.

Powertech Inc (a Canadian uranium mining company) has a 5700 acre proposed uranium mine northeast of Ft. Collins in Weld County. They will be using a groundwater leaching technique to extract the uranium to be used in nuclear power reactors. The radioactivity and groundwater contamination would affect a large area, probably including Ft. Collins, and would substantially compromise Ft. Collins' reputation for environmental stewardship, not to mention cause a health menace and mass evacuation of the area.

I am new to the Ft. Collins area and the eco-friendly nature of the town is a major reason we moved here. Uranium mining 30 miles away would definitely cause me to leave the area to protect my health.Go to www.nunnglow.com to read about the possible environmental nightmare facing us if this mining begins. This website links to others that describe what this type of mining has done to pollute the groundwater and air in communities in New Mexico, Arizona and others and cause cancers in humans and livestock. You can also go to www.powertechuranium.com to read about the Canadian company's position.

There will be a public meeting this Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 6-9 pm at the Leeper Community Center, 3800 Wilson Ave., in Wellington. I urge you to report this event and encourage concerned citizens, and yourselves, to attend this event to see what is proposed and how this would affect us.

Do not allow this issue sneak in under the radar and reverse the reputation Ft. Collins is building to be a world-class community through climate protection, environmental stewardship and economic vitality.

This man is a patriot!! I listen to him almost every morning for at least an hour. My best wishes and prayers will always be that he can continue to fight the biggest battle in the history of the USA, returning it to democracy and looking for ways to encourage peace in this world without hating those that differ from his views.I just love it when he pushes back Republican BS dialog!

I am grateful that someone is out in the radio air waves delivering the truth!
