Had dinner w/ family there. Meat was dry, sauce was too everything except tasty. Service was ok but infrequent. I can fix a better BBQ dinner at home. Why is this hole on the "Best" list?

Big Hoss Bar-B-Q
Not only do Hoss Orwat and his crew make some wicked barbecue, but they've made that wicked barbecue the focus of a great neighborhood restaurant — the kind of place that, in a perfect world, would exist within walking distance of every person's home. This joint draws a crowd from every imaginable demographic — from families out for a meal together to drunken hat boys to weird old guys yelling at the televisions to couples on dates to blissed-out restaurant critics with barbecue sauce under their fingernails. The atmosphere is all convivial weirdness and charm, and the kitchen keeps that good feeling going by turning out great grub in large portions. And above it all is Hoss himself — walking the floor, chewing the fat, buying drinks and generally acting the part of benevolent dictator in this small, delicious and ideal kingdom on Tennyson Street.

I'm surprised this keeps popping up on the best off. I live nearby and brought some friends who were in town... the bbq was mediocre at best with some of the least impressive pulled pork I've ever had. The fried chicken was so greasy it was almost inedible. And as far as price goes - for bbq, not that great. I can't believe this is the 'best' Denver has to offer.
I'm a former employee of this trainwreck of a place. It is true, Hoss likes to booze it up and yell and scream at his employees during service and his food is mediocre at best, after all he uses charcoal instead of wood. If you go in, ask to see the pit- then take note how filthy the kitchen is. This is what you're eating. Service is consistently awful because the guy runs off all of his employees that don't laugh at all his racist, sexist jokes. I've had my doubts about "best of" before, but with this vote, now I know it's a sham. Eff Big Hoss BBQ.
