In the spirit of such acts as Dashboard Confessional, City and Colour and Bon Iver, Danielle Anderson opted to go with the clumsy Danielle Ate the Sandwich rather than her given name. Fact is, with a bewitching voice that sends shivers down any listener's spine and a lyrical sensibility and sense of humor that recalls Kimya Dawson, the Fort Collins-based chanteuse could call herself Bob the Freaking Builder if she so chose and she'd still have folks eating out of the palm of her hand. Her primarily ukulele-driven odes are as awkward, clumsy and personal as they are charming, poignant and affecting — as the number of views of her homemade YouTube videos can attest.

Out of curiosity, I decided to total up the number of views all of her videos on YouTube have received.

So Danielle's videos have been viewed more than one million times. She's been under the radar in Denver, but she's got a lot of fans online.

I'm so glad Dave Herrera turned me on to Danielle. I first learned about her from Dave's Westword blog, then I heard a song on Chris K's radio show, which made me seek out her latest CD. I've fallen in love with both her music and her videos.

Danielle wowed three different crowds in Santa Fe last weekend, bringing invites to sing at parties and to work with a local radio station on some in-house music. She's edgy but very gentle, painfully thoughtful and blatantly honest. Her musicality is great too, a husky alto voice combined with just the right amount of guitar originality to punctuate her lyrics, while her uke innocently sucks you in to more complex emotions. Everybody loved her in The City Different.
