Amazing. The Dikeou Collection gets st cred! As a venue and place of art quiet contemplation with works by well known world class artists from Vik Muniz, Rainer Ganahl, and Momoyo Torimitsu, to Agathe Snow, Johannes Van Der Beek and Wade Guyton, and even art collaboratives such as the Royal Art Lodge this non venue venue also hosts a bevy of other kinds art events. What kind you ask . . . Movie Night once a month in which arthouse movies are projected . . . a monthly drawing group based on and inspired by the artists in the Collection with live models, and a world class reading and poetry program. Always free, this mixed medium art space is takes its cue from zingmagzine, the NY based multi-platform art extravaganza published in the form of a yearly magazine. The Dikeou Colllection offers wifi, and even better beverages with the occasional hors D'ouervres . . . a definite trip!
Best Non-Venue Venue - 2011
If you haven't already been to the Dikeou Collection, chances are good that you'll never find it without a guide. The gorgeous gallery is hidden away on the fifth floor of a building just off the 16th Street Mall, and is a white maze of rooms filled with art installations of all mediums, occasionally including floor-to-ceiling inflatable pink bunnies. In the midst of all this, the Dikeou Collection holds intimate, donation-based shows — Sara Century, Cougarpants and Last Eyes played a recent First Friday gathering. The space's serene sterility as a gallery offers a nice, natural juxtaposition to the loud and sometimes wild performances by local musicians.
