Best Club Night Denver 2014 - Mile High Soul Club

Readers' Choice: Beta

A monthly club night that's been going strong for close to five years, Mile High Soul Club is the place where Northern Soul and Motown fanatics can share the dance floor with folks just looking to get down to the throwback sound. DJs Dogboy, Tyler Jacobson and Steve Cervantes rotate on the ones and twos, curating sets of well-known favorites by Aretha Franklin and the Five Du-Tones and more obscure tracks by the likes of the Showstoppers and Rita & the Tiaras. The DJ trio has recently started booking live acts under the Mile High Soul Club name, but the focus is still on providing the right sonic atmosphere for busting out the bird, the pony and the watusi.

My Voice Nation Help

I'm honored that our night deserves such high praise. Thanks so much for bestowing it upon us once again. We work hard to make those endorphins release when you spend an evening with MHSC.

I also want to support what Kitty said here. There should be some scrutiny on the reader's choice to ensure that the votes are appropriate to the category. Without the editor's choice, we wouldn't have had any visibility in this category. Westword can and should nurture the seeds that we plant, rather than allow ballot stuffing in inappropriate categories to bury the hard work that we all do at the bottom level.

On the readers choice, Beta is a night club, not a club night.  There is an important difference and if Westword is not willing to distinguish between the two, how can actual small club nights even stand a chance?  It seems to me that Beta doesn't qualify in this category.
