A Little Night Music
This year, the Central City Opera House built from the proceeds of the Gold Rush, restored during the Great Depression and now the nations fifth-oldest operating opera house turns 130, and it still feels pretty. Leonard Bernsteins West Side Story opens with a sold-out performance tonight and continues through August 9. Also tonight, at the next-door Teller House, catch a tradition over seventy years in the making as the Yellow Rose Ball ushers in the beginning of the Operas summer festival season. Tickets for the ball, which gets under way at 5 p.m., are $255, but those who cant make it can still enjoy waltzing in the street by the Central City Opera Flower Girls.
The Jets and the Sharks start rumbling at 8 p.m.; West Side Story tickets are $50, $75 and $95 and are available at www.centralcityopera.org or 303-292-6700. The Opera House is at 124 Eureka Street in Central City.
