For a decade and counting, the sport of tennis has been represented by Roger Federer’s emotionless face. But when the PowerShare Series Battle of Champions comes to the Pepsi Center, fans who yearn for the bygone days of John McEnroe’s furious tirades and Andre Agassi’s dazzling mullet will get their wish. The PowerShare Series, presented by Cancer Treatment Centers of America, features a parade of champions from past years; the two-round tournament will see Agassi face off against Michael Chang and McEnroe go up against Jim Courier, with the winners going head-to-head in an eight-game pro set match.
“The one-night shootout-style format of these events makes for a big test for the players and big fun for the audience,” says Courier. “I’m especially looking forward to playing in Denver for the first time in my career.”
The PowerShare Series also offers fans the opportunity to attend an exclusive on-court clinic, during which the four champions will share their on-court expertise.
Battle of the Champions will take place at the Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle. The VIP Clinic begins at 3 p.m., and doors open to the public at 6:30 p.m. for the opening tournament between McEnroe and Courier, which starts at 7:30. Tickets range from $45 to $250 and are available at the Pepsi Center box office or online at www.powershareseries.com.
