After Boulder County’s devastating floods in September, the City of Boulder and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art quickly mobilized to put artists on the job for the Flood Project, actually a series of projects commemorating the disaster and lifting the human element out of the mud it left behind. One of those projects, mounted by the bARTer collective, which uses a mobile studio to spread art-making throughout the Front Range, involved collecting personal stories and recipes — fragments of uprooted lives — from flood victims. Tonight, their work, along with a musical project by Preston Poe of YouTunes, will culminate in a presentation at BMoCA’s Flood Project Dinner and benefit.
For this evening, bARTer collaborated with chef Hosea Rosenberg of Blackbelly Catering to reinterpret shared recipes from the project for an artist dinner. “He took those recipes — and a lot of them were like when your grandma gives you a recipe, and it’s just a dash of this and a drop of that — and took inspiration from them to create comfort dishes like truffled mac and cheese and green-chile posole,” says BMoCA spokeswoman Rendl Clark. “This is a way of celebrating that we all got through this together and to honor what happened in September.”
